Solo...

This past weekend I took a day and indulged myself in a cooking class.  A very basic cooking class, but one I needed. You see, even though I grew up making bread with my mom, I just never got the hang of it.  When I heard about the Farm Kitchen's cooking classes on Bainbridge Island, I had to sign up. Luckily for me I was just in time for the Baguettes and Soups class.

I don't have photos of the grounds, but they were gorgeous.  If it had been sunny I may have stayed all day.  This lovely table was all layed out when I arrived.  They served soup, baguettes, coffee/tea and wine for a light lunch while we were going over introductions/recipes/procedures.

Everyone got their own baguette.  They were soooo good!

All of the recipes (French bread and three soups) and directions/techniques were printed out for us.

I got a one quick photo outside of one of the sitting areas just before we started.

We got to work.

Velvet Chicken Soup

First we rolled out some pre-made dough into our loaves.  While they rose we broke into groups and made three different kinds of soup (one kind for each group).  While our soups cooked, we made bread dough to take home. Then, when the soups were done we sat back down at our big table and tasted all of the soups of the day while our first loaves of bread baked.

Loaves ready to bake

We went home with full bellies, a quart of soup each, four loaves of freshly baked baguettes, and dough to make more bread later in the week and a little more know how than we had when we got there.  I can't wait to do it again soon!

I hear the Farm Kitchen does a farm breakfast every first Saturday of the month.... I feel a family road trip to breakfast coming on...

  1. Wow, what fun!! I would love to take a cooking class! Loved your pictures. Your blog is wonderful and you are a FANTASTIC photographer.
I am going to add you on my sidebar, so I don't miss a post. I'm jealous that it's been sunny and we aren't there. ;) Our last day in Seattle was beautiful and we got to sit in the airport staring out the window at the beautiful sunny day. I can't wait to get there. =)

    XOXO ~Liz

P.S. Did you by chance send me an email on the traffic mess the weekend we were there? My email got messed up and I was so grateful for the email and info., but had no way to respond to say thank you.
